Do you ever think about the fact that we will all have to give an account for our actions one day? I know that’s a heavy question, but if we ignore the implications of that future appointment, we gamble with our eternal destiny.  The Bible says, 

For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body. (2 Corinthians 5:10 NLT)

When that day comes, the standard that we will all be measured against is the Word of God,  not some moving target that gets decided with each new decade.  In other words, the prevailing popular opinion will mean nothing.

Even though judgment day is a heavy thought, God gives us His Word as a way to check ourselves now so that we don’t get surprised on that last day.  And in His loving mercy and desire for all of us to make it, He also gives us an answer for all the places we have fallen short in the past, the present and even where we will fall short in the future.  That answer is through the provision Jesus made on the cross.

We can now repent, that is, turn away from our wrong actions, and ask God for forgiveness.  When we do this, because of what Jesus did, God will erase all those wrong actions from our account. He will also give us what we need to be ready on that day by teaching us how to live according to the standard of His Word.  None of us has to face that judgment unprepared.
