Have you ever been convinced that you knew what the path was for your life, only to be disappointed it didn’t work out, but then later, you were happy it didn’t work out? Yeah, I’ve been there too. Let’s just say that what I planned to do with my life after college was nothing like where I ended up. An advanced degree was exchanged for a temporary, entry level job in a career I would never have dreamt of! But the miraculous way God opened doors for me to land the job, showed it was totally in His plan.
From the first few months at that unexpected job, I was stunned at what a perfect fit it was. That whole experience really drove the lesson home for me that the One who made us (that would be God!) also had a purpose in mind for each of our lives right from the start. I could clearly see that God knew so much better than I did what I should be doing with my life. In fact, years later, when people ask me if I like what I do for a living, I find myself answering, “This is what I was made to do!
God is the Potter and you are the clay. So whatever God has called you to, do it joyfully and with all your heart. (excerpt from Walking in Your True Identity Part 2 by Pastor Vondalier Pipkin)
None of us can see the future, and it turns out we don’t know what’s best for ourselves as well as we think we do. But when we recognize that God surely has designed us for a purpose, we can have confidence in Him and hope for the future. Even when things come up in life that force us to change course- unexpected things, unpleasant things, difficult things- we can trust that through it all, God has a plan and He’s built into us whatever we need for what we will face.
For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
