Do you ever notice how over time, some words can get thrown around so much that their meaning gets diluted by the overuse? I think the effect is magnified when the word’s meaning is beyond our comprehension in the first place- as is the case of the word, “God.” We can talk about God a lot without necessarily considering what it really means for Him to be... God. It’s worth taking some time to really contemplate.
God is in a class of His own. He exists apart from everything else. If there is nothing else, God still is. He has always been, He did not start somewhere. God is the self-existent One! (excerpt from Walking in Your True Identity Part 3 by Pastor Vondalier Pipkin)
Let that soak in. Think about the implications- for your own life and even for the whole world. All the things we learn about what God says and does and wants- they take on so much greater significance when we begin to realize Who God is. Maybe that’s why God sent this message through the prophet Isaiah to remind us how unique and powerful He is:
Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. (Isaiah 46:9-10 NLT)
Truly, there is no one like our God. When we talk about how He loves us and wants good for us and how He wants us to trust and obey Him, let’s remember exactly Who He is. He is the one who said,
"From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done." (Isaiah 43:13 NLT)
